Ducquan R. McFarlane brings extensive frontline experience within Ontario’s criminal justice system to his work with Gavel Law. His background spans criminal defence, court-connected programming, and community corrections, providing him with a practical understanding of criminal proceedings and the challenges facing accused persons.
Prior to law school, Ducquan worked extensively with Crown Attorneys across Toronto and other Ontario jurisdictions on matters involving individuals before the criminal courts. He also served on the Intimate Partner Violence Committee at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto, working alongside Deputy and Assistant Crown Attorneys in support of the establishment of the IPV Court.
On the defence side, Ducquan has assisted with complex criminal matters through legal research, detailed disclosure review, identification of evidentiary and Charter issues, case preparation, and the drafting of litigation materials. His experience working across different areas of the justice system allows him to approach defence files with a practical understanding of how criminal cases are investigated, prosecuted, and defended.
Ducquan is currently completing his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Sussex and is committed to building his career in criminal defence and litigation
